Uwais Mohideen was born in 1976 in Kattankudy, Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. As a father of two, he holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Agricultural Science from the Eastern University of Sri Lanka and an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Peradeniya. Currently, he serves as a Superintendent of Customs with the Sri Lanka Customs. He has previously held various positions in both governmental and international organizations.
During his frequent excursions to Sri Lanka’s National Parks with friends, Uwais developed a profound appreciation for nature and wildlife. This passion was further nurtured by reading and viewing documentaries on the flora and fauna of Sri Lanka. In 2012, he acquired his first camera, which prompted him to pursue nature photography as a serious hobby and passion.
Presently, Uwais utilizes the Sony Alpha 7IV Mirrorless system to capture these moments, complemented by the Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS Lens and the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens.
Uwais is committed to actively contributing to nature conservation in both his personal and professional endeavors. As a first step, he organized his maiden nature photography exhibition, titled “Glimpses of Wild,” from April 26th to 29th, 2018, at the Hizbullah Hall in Kattankudy (Eastern Sri Lanka). This exhibition aimed to encourage his community to appreciate and preserve the wildlife within their vicinity.
